The Quiet Man’s Dog

Julius Merck, a quiet man

Would take his dog on walks

He always kept his eyes cast down

To strangers would not talk

His chief goal was to make it out

And then return to home

And save for Ace, his trusty dog

He preferred to be alone

Then one day, to his despair

When walking down the street

Ace began to jump around

When pedestrians they’d meet

He wouldn’t jump upon them

Or bark at them at all

His jumps were straight into the sky

Over trees and buildings tall

And Julius, his face was red

His heart, it pounded fast

No longer could he hide himself

Or quietly wander past

He shouted angry to the sky

And called right up at Ace

And when Ace heard his tone of voice

And looked and saw his face

He came back down as he was told

To heed his master’s calling

And landed lightly at his side

No risk or chance of falling

But by that time a crowd had come

To see the quite strange sight

The dog who jumped above the clouds

And seemed to take to flight

Julius, they greeted warmly

And shook his hand with glee

And asked him how he trained his dog

To jump right over trees

And that poor man, he dropped his guard

His face broke in a smile

And made that day so many friends

And stayed for quite a while

As for Ace, he looked right up

Into his happy master’s face

Julius, the quiet man

And his best friend, Ace
