In Service of Pigeons

The lovely Lady Laudine

She sleeps only a smidgeon

She’d rather be up talking to

The cooing, rooftop pigeons

When night has come and others rest

She’s in the kitchen, baking

Then to the birds upon the roof

She’s plates of cookies taking

And they all coo and say it’s nice

But wonder if she’d see

A way to make her way back down

To make them cups of tea

So back she goes on down the stairs

To set the kettle boiling

While others sleep within their beds

She is for pigeons, toiling
