Catching Dreams
There are some that you would know
As teachers, by profession
But if you look them in the eye
They’ll make you this confession
That what they truly seek to do
Is fish for hopes and dreams
Amid their students’ rushing minds
That flow and leap like streams
And catching them they hold them up
Declaring they are fine
And then they gently let them go
To watch them grow and shine
So if you see a teacher out
And look them in the eye
And see that they’re for children’s dreams
Then please don’t just say hi
But tell them that the world is changed
By every thing they do
And every child that they have loved
They’ve helped their dreams come true

The Cat of Time
My aunt, she has a Cat of Time
A magical machine
It sits upon a kitchen shelf
Next to her soup tureen
The Cat of Time, it steams and spouts
Making cups of coffee
And there’s a drawer within the side
That’s full of buttered toffee
The cat is made of shining brass
Reflecting all around
And when at rest, it softly chimes
A lovely, soothing sound
That quietly, like distant rain
Seems to let you know
That wondrous things are on the way
Just wait until they show

The Man with the French-white Ladder Does Laundry
The man with the French-white ladder
Pauses to look at the stars
And steals a moment of quiet
Away from the streetlights and cars
The man with the French-white ladder
In his heart he treasures it all
The expansive sky and his village below
And the laundry where he’s come to call
The man with the French-white ladder
Has come to the time of the week
When his socks and his shirts, they need washing
So it’s here that he stealthily sneaks
The man with the French-white ladder
Makes his way in through the roof
He could visit the place in the daytime
But prefers to remain quite aloof
The man with the French-white ladder
Launders and irons all night
Then trundles his clothes right back to his home
Just before the sun brings forth its light

Drawing from Memory
As I picked a pencil up
And put it to the page
And as I moved a line across
I quite forgot my age
And as I drew, my thoughts grew young
And I began to smile
For I had realized I had drawn
The perfect crocodile

Parade of Dreams
Resting out amid the desert
Dreaming with the cactus, tall
Leaning back against a boulder
Star-spread sky, and I so small
While I sleep, the dreams parading
Through my mind, across the sand
Until stellar light is fading
And sun rises on the land
