One idea, and two and three
And four and five and more
These ideas keep flowing out
And out and out they pour
I’m not sure just where they’re from
I can’t locate their locus
But with all these ideas around
The thing I need is FOCUS!

The Importance of Stories
Stories of so many kinds
Dance within our children’s minds
There they see both foes and friends
They see beginnings
They see ends
They may see the chance to fight
For peace and justice, for what is right
They find questions about how to grow
Where to rest, and when to go
They’ll find answers for who they are
And each becomes a guiding star
That lights the story they are in
Already begun and not yet the end

The Need for Teachers
As born to Earth, children come
Discovering life and creatures
And start to know the world around
They’ve need of loving teachers
To watch and listen, share and follow
And even times to lead
Adventuring out away from them
And returning when they need
That as they grow and learn and feel
They’ll know the Earth to be
A place they can explore with love
Wherever they may be

The Flight of Arnold Asher
Arnold Asher made some wings
Of paste and paper news
And wore them with a draping robe
And the lightest, sky-blue shoes
He never knew a sweeter time
Than soaring through the air
Regarding all the earth below
Friends’ houses, here and there
He wondered at the treetops
And their textures from above
And how it all looked fine and new
The yards and parks he loved
And when he landed back among
The folks like me and you
He saw it all was precious
With his new, expanded view

Chipping at the stone to see
What is hidden here within
A sense of promise to begin

Every chip will set it free
Figures, shapes and who can say?
What we’ll see as we chip away
