To a Birthday Party In Rain
We’ve a cupcake made for a birthday party
And the clouds are full of rain
So we’re making our way under the umbrella
As we wander the way down the lane
We move with care as we take each step
And we keep our eyes to the sky
For we’d like to maintain our presentable state
And arrive with the cupcake quite dry

An Excessive Presence of Forms
He says he’s here to check my tags
To make sure I’ve been counted
To sum up all rhinoceroses
And see just what’s amounted
He says he needs my middle name
And the length of each my horns
And he’s sure he needs the phase of the moon
On the day that I was born
He says he’d like to hear me sing
And stand up on my toes
And wonders if I can recall
How the alphabet, backwards, goes
He scribbles these down as quick as can be
Referencing systemic norms
But I’ve already titled my formal complaint
“An Excessive Presence of Forms”

A Bed Outside
Make your bed out of doors, my friends
And sleep your sleep with the flowers
Rest yourself with the wild rose scent
Dreaming sweetly for hours and hours
Wake with the ferns speaking out your name
And the dew drops washing your face
Then sip the drink of the chicory flower
In a robe made of Queen Anne’s lace

Little Shell
Little shell, I see you
I found you in the sand
But were you going out to sea
Or heading on to land?
For if you sought the waters
I’d swim you further on
And if the beach you wanted
I’d walk you far beyond
Oh how I’d like to help you
To complete your path today
But since I don’t know where you’re bound
I’ll leave you to your way

The Clever Use of Scale
There was a knight
Who sat upon
A steed which was too small
To give the sense
To all his foes
That he was rather tall
Many battles he sought out
And many did he win
Most knights just simply ran away
Too fearful to begin
At last the knight decided to
Retire and shed his mail
And started building tiny homes
With his clever use of scale
