Your Favorite Book

When looking for your eyeglasses

Now don’t forget to look

Back in the spot where you had been

Reading your favorite book

And surely though you search the field

That is where they’ll be

So hurry back and put them on

So you can clearly see

My Father Wore a Wizard

My father wore a wizard

Every day upon his hat

As off to work he went each day

To his office where he sat

He said the wizard spruced him up

And made him feel ok

As he sought to stay engaged

Throughout his working day

“Find the work that interests you,”

To me, was his advice,

“But if you must work otherwise

Perhaps a wizard will suffice

Though to have a way to pay the bills

Is very far from tragic

We all have need to be inspired

By means, including magic.”

A Morning Greeting

Every morning when I wake

I look into the mirror

And say directly to myself

With no witness and no hearer

I’m glad that you are here today

It’s really rather fine

To live beneath the sunlit sky

To work and play in time

And then as day does while away

I’ll return to my nest

With thanks for all the day did hold

And gladly seek some rest

A Process for Perfect T-shirts

I’ve found the perfect process

To make t-shirts fit just right

For they always seem to come too big

Or fit me far too tight

And the plan is really simple

Though it does have several parts

But the first is most important

So that is where I’ll start

I first begin by ordering

A size fifty-extra-large

They ship them in from Portugal

On an ocean-going barge

And after I’ve unpackaged it

I spray it down with water

At first the temperature is cold

Though I gradually make it hotter

Then when the shirt is fully doused

It’s ironed most profusely

Till shrinking to the just right size

Doesn’t hang upon me loosely

I know for many reasons

It’s a practice I should quit

But it’s the only way I’ve found

To make my t-shirts fit

Alternatives to Oatmeal

I dreamt last night that I was thrown

Into an oatmeal bowl

I wish it had been quicksand

Or a rail car filled with coal

I wish I had been swallowed

By some huge, gigantic bird

Or carried off in a stampede

By some wild bison herd

I’d rather I’d been spread on toast

Or baked with flour and yeast

Than be covered all in oatmeal

The breakfast food I like the least
