The Stork and the Warhorse

The stork and the warhorse

In concert, are not

The war horse is charging

The bird wouldn’t be caught

Rushing off into battle

As it flies to its nest

To attend to its kin

And to feed and to rest

But the war horse is charging

To what end it’s not clear

As it rushes forth boldly

Postponing its fear

Serving its rider

Until its release

The war horse is charging

To preserve the stork’s peace

And with a teapot that could hold a lake

She catches the rainfall, for her tea to make

An Order for Eggs

Please cook my eggs

To be moderate soft

It shouldn’t be hard

Not a goal that’s aloft

No I don’t take them scrambled

Nor poached, deviled, or dried

Oh yes I have had them

So please can you make them?

It’s not front-page news

They’ve increased security

At the government center

It’s downright impossible

For a person to enter

And nobody knows

Just what measures they’ve taken

And at the same time

Seems they’ve put up the cash

To hire somebody

To clean up the trash

For there used to be litter

Under each bench and tree

But now it’s all clean—

It’s as clean as can be...

There’s a tale that’s told

Out along the Gold Mile

Of a rough, woolly cowboy

And his fine crocodile

He rustles the cattle

Across trail and track

And sits atop croc

Yes, he rides on his back

And though you may doubt

That it’s true and sincere

I have seen it myself

And I’ve heard with my ear

As the cowpoke has yipped

As he’s hollered and driven

And the croc’s followed orders

Every one that he’s given

And together they gather

The cows from the plain

The rough, woolly cowboy

And his croc with spiked mane
